Born and raised in Greater Manchester — spending the majority of her childhood in Marple — Pip Millett shares that her early experiences of loss and grief played a huge part in her resonating with and being obtusely aware of her emotions from her infancy.
“They’ve really helped shape my ability to songwrite,” she acknowledges in an inquisitive and animated Northern twang. “I find it easier to say what I can’t physically express to people with words.”
Remaining centred and a vigorous source of strength for her meant that musicality organically found its way into Pip Millett’s ether, before she realised that she wanted to become a professional vocalist. “Hearing the warmth of other people’s voices, the pain, or the joy that they experienced made me feel at peace,” she clarifies wholesomely. “I feel like they were able to make me feel understood; it’s so powerful, music, the ability to make me feel just as they did when they recorded.”
