Cooking up genre-busting anthems out of a cluttered and cramped Seattle basement, charlieonnafriday (a.k.a. Charlie Finch) unassumingly transformed a high school dream into an impressive reality in D.I.Y. fashion and on his own terms…
As he scaled multiplatinum heights, gathered billions of streams, and performed to sold out crowds, he always clung tightly to what brought him to that point in the first place. He makes music with the indisputable integrity surrounded by “day one” friends—fondly known as his “onnafriday” clique.
Maintaining this mindset, everything just set the stage for music to come in 2024. Bobbing and weaving freely between alternative, pop, and country, he proudly lives up to the title.“I’m still the same kid who was making songs in the basements with his homies,” he says. “I’ve experienced more and have a lot to talk about, but nothing has changed at the core. There are no boundaries, and the music just has the energy of a young kid trying to make it. This authenticity makes ‘onnafriday’ what it is, and I won’t ever lose it.”
Rewinding back to the beginning, it’s those early recordings that set Charlie on the path to stardom. He initially lit up TikTok mid-Pandemic. Inking a deal with Island Records, he ignited the platinum-certified “After Hours” and platinum-certified “Enough.” In between, he collaborated with everyone from Lil TJay to Bankrol Hayden. He earned acclaim from Billboard, People, and many more. Known for unpredictable and undeniable shows, he performed to packed audiences on bills with the likes of Macklemore, Jessie Murph, and Tate McRae.
He only translated this live energy into creative fodder for his next chapter. This time around, he made multiple trips to Nashville in order to craft the album’s framework. Nodding to inspirations as diverse as Young Thug, Lil Keed, and Morgan Wallen as well his “favorite album ever” Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys, he expanded his signature sound by pulling in country influences and getting more personal than ever.
“I try to be as relatable as possible,” he notes. “I wanted to make sure this project defines who I am. We’re wild ass dudes on stage. You might go to a show and then catch us at the bar across the street afterwards. We’ll grab a drink and have a good time together. So, the title is a natural representation of the music too.”
He initially introduced this era with “Warning Shot.” Right out of the gate, it reeled in over 1 million Spotify streams in addition to acclaim from Melodic Magazine who hailed it as “an impressive example of Finch’s musical versatility.”
Ultimately, charlieonnafriday is forever the same kid he was back in the basement.
“I hope this music makes people feel refreshed, but I also hope it gives them a nostalgic feeling,” he concludes. “I want it to bring them back to certain memories and help them create new ones, which is what my favorite music always did for me. I really hope this music can do that for you.”
