Lynks returns with new single ’(What Did You Expect From) Sex With A Stranger’ – a bouncing queer-pop paen-cum-diary entry detailing the rollercoaster of emotions that is heading to a one night stand with someone you’ve met online. This also comes with the announcement of a run of EU dates in 2024.

‘Sex With A Stranger’ truly highlights Lynks’ vaudeville spirit; they expertly weave together lyrics that evoke genuine sympathy and emotional introspection around casual sex (“I dont wanna spend the night alone/So I don’t think about how I’ll feel when it’s over), as well as outright hilarious lines that highlight it’s absurdity in the modern era (“I’m on the DLR on my way to fuck a stranger/Know his age, know his height, don’t know his name”). It’s this ability to dance between the lines of comedy and vulnerability, whilst also making a dance-able electro smash hit, sets Lynks far apart from their peers.

‘Sex With A Stanger’  follows from instant classic ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’, which fueled Lynks’ ascent to new heights, landing them a Spotify billboard, and ‘NEW BOYFRIEND’ which recently was added to the A-List at BBC6 Music.

Speaking on the track, Lynks muses:

“Now, Grindr can be a wonderful thing – don’t get me wrong. But I wrote this song during a time when I was using Grindr almost like TikTok or Instagram; as a way to distract myself from reality – to not be alone with my thoughts. And, unsurprisingly, the sex that came from that wasn’t hugely fulfilling. I was seeking these encounters to try and distract myself from the mundanity of life, but ultimately leaving them feeling no different. I wanted to try and capture that weird oxymoron; sex without feeling, romance in a coma. What does sex become when it’s devoid of emotion? Transactional? Routine? Obligatory? Compulsive? It’s a funny idea. And one I hadn’t really heard put to music before. So I thought I’d better do it! And shout out the Docklands Light Railway in the process.”

While evoking the electro-clash roots of Peaches, the industrial chant of M.I.A., the sardonic drawl of Courtney Barnett, and the theatrics of Lady GaGa, Lynks’ music stands alone as something totally unique. And this uniqueness has earned him acclaim from the best; support tours with Metronomy and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, a wealth of support from Radio 1, guest-host spots on Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6Music show, and personal praise from Elton John, to name just a few.

There is nothing quite like Lynks. An unpasteurized shot of electro-punk chaos compressed into the shape of a human man, wrapped up in a gimp mask, creating tiny queer utopias wherever he goes. And what utopias they are; sub-blowing, criminally danceable beats, anthemically witty lyrics about the darkest corners of modern life, and pure, unapologetic, camp excess colliding in a fog of sweat and confetti.

Lynks’ live shows have been lauded as an unpasteurized shot of electro-punk chaos, filled with pure, unapologetic, camp excess. They set off on their biggest UK & EU headline tour at the start of next year, with a longer project soon to be announced.
